‘Fußball wie noch nie’ (Football like never before) is a film that documents the entire football match between Manchester United and Coventry City from 12th September 1970. George Best, United’s star player of the time, is rarely let out of camera view, and throughout the film, with no narration or story alongside it, we watch a game of football - like never before.
I wanted to convey the experience I had when watching this film. I was so drawn to the images in it that I felt it was important to present them in a way that makes them almost their own pieces. More importantly, with the film’s lack of narration one is left to only analyse the image. Hence the book consists of 11 stills from the film that I selected. The number 11 alligns with both George Best’s number on the back of his shirt, and the number of players on a team.
